The results of the 2022 National Baseball Hall of Fame election will be announced exclusively on MLB Network on Tuesday, Jan. 25, at 3 p.m. PT.
The four-hour announcement show begins at 1 p.m. PT and will be anchored by Greg Amsinger, Brian Kenny and Lauren Shehadi. Coverage will include analysis from 2018 Ford C. Frick Award winner Bob Costas, MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds, and MLB Network insiders and Hall of Fame voters Jon Morosi, Joel Sherman and Tom Verducci.
Cleveland Guardians manager Terry Francona, 2022 BBWAA Career Excellence Award winner Tim Kurkjian, three-time Manager of the Year Award winner Jim Leyland and longtime Hall of Fame voter Rob Parker are also scheduled to join the program.
As part of MLB Network’s live pre-announcement show, Verducci will detail how this is Barry Bonds’ and Roger Clemens’ final year of eligibility on the ballot. Kenny will also examine the first-year Hall of Fame candidates.
Furthermore, hip hop legend Chuck D filmed a piece on the questions facing the fans and voters heading into this year’s announcement.
The 2022 National Baseball Hall of Fame ballot consists of 30 candidates, including 13 newcomers and seven players with ties to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Returning for consideration are Bonds, Clemens, Curt Schilling, Sammy Sosa, Scott Rolen, Omar Vizquel, Billy Wagner, Todd Helton, Gary Sheffield, Andruw Jones, Jeff Kent, Manny Ramirez, Andy Pettite, Mark Buehrle, Torii Hunter, Bobby Abreu and Tim Hudson.
Carl Crawford, Prince Fielder, Ryan Howard, Tim Lincecum, Justin Morneau, Joe Nathan, David Ortiz, Jonathan Papelbon, Jake Peavy, A.J. Pierzynski, Álex Rodríguez, Jimmy Rollins and Mark Teixeira debuted on the Hall of Fame ballot for 2022.
Any candidate who receives votes on 75% of all ballots will earn election into the Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame Weekend 2022 is scheduled to be held July 22-25 in Cooperstown, N.Y., with the Induction Ceremony slated for Sunday, July 24, 2022.
Hodges among 2022 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees via Golden Days Era Committee
Dodgers legend Gil Hodges, Jim Kaat, Minnie Miñoso and Tony Oliva were among the former players elected into the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Golden Days Era Committee. Meanwhile, the Early Baseball Era Committee inducted Bud Fowler and Buck O’Neil into the Hall of Fame.
The aforementioned players will be joined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2022 by any electees who emerge from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America voting.
