Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Impressed By Bryce Young In Alabama Comeback Against Auburn

Saturday brought about a thrilling slate of college football games, with No. 3 Alabama and Auburn arguably leading the headlines with an all-time Iron Bowl classic.

The Crimson Tide were on the verge of falling out of the College Football Playoff picture when Pasadena, Calif., native Bryce Young led the team on a 97-yard touchdown drive to tie the game with 24 seconds remaining.

Prior to Young finding Ja’Corey Brooks with a 28-yard touchdown pass, Alabama had mustered just three points in one of their worst offensive showings of the season.

Young’s strike to tie the game and silence the Auburn faithful at Jordan-Hare Stadium caught the attention and praise of Walker Buehler.

While Young’s touchdown pass was impressive, the Crimson Tide needed a fourth overtime to escape with a 24-22 win. It marked the first time the Iron Bowl matchup had ever gone into overtime.

Buehler attended Vanderbilt University — also of the Southeastern Conference — for three years prior to being selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers with the No. 24 pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. The Commodores don’t have a rich football history, but have been dominant in baseball.

David Price also attended Vanderbilt and has bonded with Buehler over sharing that connection to Vanderbilt since he was traded to the Dodgers.

Dodgers turn to Alabama for draft pick

While not the university, the Dodgers went into Alabama for their first pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, taking prep left-handed pitcher Maddux Bruns out of UMS-Wright Preparatory School with the 29th overall selection.

Bruns at the time was committed to attend Mississippi State, but wound up signing with the Dodgers for under slot value.
