One night after clinching a postseason berth for the ninth consecutive season, the Los Angeles Dodgers have now secured home-field advantage for a potential spot in the National League Wild Card Game.
The Dodgers still have their sights set on winning the NL West a ninth straight year, but continue to chase the San Francisco Giants. Should a Game 163 be required to decided a division winner, that would be played at Oracle Park.
If the Dodgers do wind up in the Wild Card Game at Dodger Stadium, it would mark a franchise first. Though, that does excluded last year when an expanded MLB postseason field required all qualifying teams to play a best-of-3 Wild Card Series for the first time in league history.
As for a potential Wild Card opponent, L.A. figures to face one of the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds, San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies or New York Mets.
The Padres have been on a free fall for several weeks and the Reds are mired in a skid as well, which opened the door for the surging Cardinals.
St. Louis and L.A. of course have plenty of postseason history that has been one sided. They last met in the 2014 NL Division Series, which the Cardinals won in four games. The Dodgers also were eliminated by them the year prior in the NL Championship Series.
The 2009 NLDS marks the only time the Dodgers have ever eliminated the Cardinals in the playoffs.
Regardless of where the NL Wild Card Game is played, or the opponents, it’s scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 6, and will be nationally televised exclusively by TBS.

Although they could very well end up in the Wild Card Game, registration for a lottery to purchase Dodgers postseason tickets to potential NLDS and NLCS games at Dodger Stadium is open through Monday.
