The Baltimore Orioles claimed Conner Greene off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
It marks a return for Greene, as the Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the Orioles earlier this month. “He is a Santa Monica kid, we have a lot of six degrees to Kevin Bacon relationships, with me being from UCLA,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said at the time.
“I know he’s excited to be a Dodger, his childhood team. He’s got really big stuff with the fastball, a couple different breaking balls and changeup. My message to him and from the pitching coaches was, ‘Just go be yourself and let us support you to get outs.’
“I know he’s thrilled, I’m sure his family is thrilled, and we’re excited to have him.”
Greene was passing through waivers for a second time this season due to getting designated for assignment in order for the Dodgers to officially sign Shane Greene.
Conner Greene had been optioned three days prior, along with Andre Jackson, as corresponding roster moves to Evan Phillis and Gavin Lux being activated.
Greene turned in a pair of scoreless innings over two appearances in his brief time with the Dodgers.
Greene last pitched in the series finale against the New York Mets.
Greene excited to join Dodgers
Having been eliminated by the Dodgers as a member of the Atlanta Braves in last year’s National League Championship Series, Shane Greene spoke with excitement of joining a team in pursuit of defending their World Series title.
“I guess it’s not that weird, but I told Doc, ‘You guys stole a World Series from me last year, so I’m looking forward to winning one with you this year,'” Greene joked.
Unfortunately for the veteran relief pitcher, his Dodgers debut amounted to allowing one hit, issuing one walk and hitting two batters, which led to a pair of runs scoring. Greene only retired one of five batters faced.
