Update (Sept. 3, 3:25 p.m. PT): The Los Angeles Dodgers announced they will wear their Nike City Connect uniform against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers unveiled their Nike City Connect jersey and they will make their debut on the field against the New York Mets on Friday.
L.A. will also be wearing them on Saturday, but so far those are the only two games they are scheduled to wear them. However, it does remain possible the Dodgers could be in the all blue look for more games as the season winds to a close.
The new uniform combo features a blue jersey with “Los Dodgers” written in white across the chest in the franchise’s iconic font. They also still have the red numbers on the front and have black spray-painted accents on the sleeves to represent L.A.’s street art culture and murals.
The jersey is accompanied by matching blue pants and a cap that also says “Los Dodgers” on them, giving them an all-Dodger-blue uniform combo for the first time in franchise history.
“The Dodger uniform is an iconic part of the franchise’s identity. While our traditional look has and will always be worn by the franchise-great players, the City Connect program offered us the opportunity to recognize the impact and importance of our multicultural fanbase,” Dodgers executive vice president and chief marketing officer Lon Rosen said in a statement.
“We’re excited to debut these City Connect uniforms on the field and know our fans will enjoy seeing ‘Los Dodgers’ on the uniforms as well as our new murals, which bring Los Angeles’ street art culture to Dodger Stadium.”
The Boston Red Sox were the first to debut an alternate uniform from Nike on April 17, and they have since been followed by the Miami Marlins (May 21), Chicago White Sox (June 5), Chicago Cubs (June 12), Arizona Diamondbacks (June 18) and San Francisco Giants (July 9)
The Dodgers faced the Diamondbacks when their “Serpientes” City Connect jersey was worn for the first time — and again in late July. The Dodgers also played against the Giants in their Golden Gate Bridge look last month during a game at Oracle Park.
Dodgers murals unveiled at Dodger Stadium
In addition to the City Connect uniforms, the Dodgers unveiled murals from multiple local artists to bring the city’s street art culture to Chavez Ravine.
They are located on the left and right field loge terraces, which fans can visit and take photos in front of the new Dodger Stadium murals.
