The annual Los Angeles Dodgers All-Access event at Dodger Stadium last week featured part-owner Peter Guber, manager Dave Roberts, Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín, Matt Beaty, Julio Urias, Mickey Hatcher, Manny Mota, Chase Utley and Steve Garvey, among others.
Proceeds from the seventh annual Dodgers All-Access benefitted the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission and Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. The event was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
“It is such a joy to have you all here tonight,” LADF CEO Nichol Whiteman said to the sold-out crowd. “Welcome to Dodger Stadium, home of your World Series champions. After taking a year off, we wanted tonight to feel very special.
“We hope you enjoyed our new center field project. What makes tonight even more magical is a portion of the proceeds do support the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. As many of you are aware, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation is tackling the most pressing problems facing Los Angeles, with a particular focus on homelessness, education, healthcare and social justice for all Angelenos.”
After the likes of Garvey, Hatcher, Mota and Utley posed for pictures with fans at various stations on the field, they took their seats to watch panels hosted by John Hartung and Rick Monday.
Hartung and Monday first welcomed Guber and Roberts to the stage for a discussion on winning the 2020 World Series, not getting to have a championship parade, overcoming a rash of injuries this year, and more topics.
They were followed by Jarrín, Beaty and Urias to conclude the night. Urias explained why David Ortiz was his favorite player growing up and his success with the bat this season. That prompted Beaty to reveal a conversation he had with Albert Pujols after the trade deadline.
“When we made some trades at the deadline, I’m sitting next to Albert on the bench and Albert looks at me and goes, ‘Matty, man, if we get in this lineup, we might be hitting eight-hole.’
“I looked at him and said, ‘Albert, it depends on who’s pitching. If Julio’s pitching, we might be hitting nine.”
Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation 5K
On Saturday, the LADF is hosting their live and virtual 5K, with alumni due to be at the finish line to congratulate those who complete the event in person at Dodger Stadium.
All registered participants for the sold-out event are receiving a Corey Seager World Series champion bobblehead, Dodgers ’21 tech shirt with reflective logo and a finisher’s medal. All-Star packages include an additional Seager bobblehead and fanny pack.
