Dodgers Highlights: 9-Run Inning Leads To Blowout Of Nationals

The Los Angeles Dodgers not only overcame an early deficit but turned the game into a laugher behind a nine-run seventh inning to get a 10-5 win over the Washington Nationals. L.A. has now won seven games in a row, which is their second-longest streak of the season.

The Nationals took a lead in the second inning when Starlin Castro and Yan Gomes hit a single and double, respectively, to put two on with nobody out. Two runs then scored on Justin Turner’s throwing error, and Humberto Arteaga’s sacrifice fly put the Dodgers in a 3-0 deficit.

Julio Urias held the Nationals to just three runs (one earned) on three hits over six innings of work. He was rewarded with keeping the Dodgers in the game as their offense exploded against the Nationals bullpen in the seventh inning.

Up to that point L.A. only had a Justin Turner solo home run off the scoreboard. Max Scherzer allowed four hits — including two to Turner — and finished with eight strikeouts in six innings of work as well.

A trio of Nationals relief pitchers were knocked around in the seventh, though their implosion began with Castro failing to make a play on Albert Pujols’ slow chopper. Pujols not only reached with one out in the inning but Chris Taylor scored from third base.

Mookie Betts then gave the Dodgers a lead on a two-run single that came with the bases loaded, and Max Muncy extended it by plating two on a jam-shot that sailed past a drawn-in infield.

Chris Taylor added to the lead with a two-run base hit in his second at-bat of the inning, and AJ Pollock capped off the offensive explosion with a two-run home run in what was also his second plate appearance in the frame after pinch-hitting.

Dodgers visit White House

The Dodgers spent Friday morning visiting the White House for a celebration hosted by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. L.A. was recognized for winning the 2020 World Series during a ceremony in the East Room in what was their first trip to the White House since October 1988.
