The Los Angeles Dodgers had prospects Andre Jackson and Michael Busch selected for the 2021 MLB All-Star Futures Game. Established in 1999, the Futures Game is a highly distinguished and selective event aimed at showcasing the next generation of talent.

Each team in the Majors is guaranteed representation in the game, but no more than two players shall appear from one organization. From its inception in 1999 until 2018, the Futures Game was played between a United States team composed of American-born players and a World roster consisting of players born outside the U.S.

In 2019, however, the formatting was switched to an American League team facing a National League team, just like with the annual All-Star Game amongst Major League players.

Jackson was selected by the Dodgers 370th overall in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB Draft. He played two season at the University of Utah prior to being drafted.

In three years in the Minors, Jackson has compiled a 12-9 record and 3.51 ERA. This season for Double-A Tulsa, he has pitched a 3.77 ERA through his first nine starts.

Busch was selected 31st overall in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He played college ball for three seasons at the University of North Carolina.

Now in his second season at the Minor League level, Busch is still getting acclimated to the heightened level of play. Also playing for the Drillers this year, Busch is hitting just .222.

Despite Busch’s slow start in the Minors, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has been bullish about the prospect’s future in the organization. “I like him,” Roberts said of Busch after a Spring Training game in March.

“I like the baseball player. People talk about the bat, but I like the overall baseball player. Continuing to get reps at second base, he’s got a good head, good makeup, comes from a great program, plays the game the right way.

“Very high baseball acumen. He checks every box. It’s just now going out there and continuing to take professional at-bats, play second base and continue to get comfortable over there. He’s coming.”

The Futures Game will be played Sunday, July 11, two days before the All-Star Game. Like the Midsummer Classic, the Futures Game will be at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. PT.
