The first 2021 MLB All-Star Game voting update was released Monday, with the Los Angeles Dodgers on pace to only be represented thus far by Max Muncy leading all National League first basemen with 405,609 votes.
Muncy, who currently is on the 10-day injured list due to a right oblique strain, was recently touted by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts as performing to the level of being one of the top players in baseball this season. Roberts more recently deemed Muncy one of the Dodgers’ MVPs as well, along with Chris Taylor.
Gavin Lux is the third-leading vote-getter among NL second basemen, with the Atlanta Braves’ Ozzie Albies at the top and Adam Frazier of the Pittsburgh Pirates in second place.
Justin Turner also is in third place among third basemen in the league. The Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant has the most votes at the position thus far, and the St. Louis Cardinals’ Nolan Arenado is second.
Corey Seager, on the mend from a fractured right hand, is in third place as well. The San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. is tracking to start for the NL at shortstop, and Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs is the second-leading vote-getter.
In the outfield, the Dodgers have Mookie Betts (fourth place) and Chris Taylor (sixth) ranking among the top nine vote-getters. Nine outfielders from each league will advance to Phase 2 of All-Star Game voting.
Will Smith is in fourth place among NL catchers.
For Muncy this would mark a second career All-Star Game selection, with his first coming in 2019. It was all the more memorable with the Midsummer Classic being played at Progressive Field in Cleveland, where Muncy attended games as a child.
Turner and Seager were both All-Stars for the Dodgers in 2017. Lux and Taylor are yet to receive the honor, and Betts made four straight All-Star Game appearances for the Boston Red Sox from 2016-19.
Phase 1 of MLB All-Star Game voting
The initial phase of All-Star Game voting runs through 1 p.m. PT on June 24. Fans can access the MLB All-Star Game ballot at MLB.com, all 30 team sites, and the MLB and MLB Ballpark apps.
It is also available on Google search (United States and Canada only), where fans can vote for any player simply by entering their name (for example, “Clayton Kershaw”) and be taken directly to their section of the ballot.
Fans also can go directly to the Google ballot or enter searches such as “MLB vote” or “MLB All-Star vote” in the search bar.
Voting can be conducted on up to five ballots per 24 hours via MLB platforms. Through Google, fans can complete one full ballot and vote for every position, or vote for up to 17 unique players per day. A specific player can only be voted for once per day via the Google ballot.
