Max Muncy: Dodgers ‘Way Better’ Than Recent Play Would Suggest

The Los Angeles Dodgers were swept for the first time this season after dropping a second consecutive game in extra innings to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

The club is just 4-13 in their last 17 games since getting off to an MLB-best 13-2 start. “We’re absolutely frustrated,” Max Muncy said after Wednesday’s loss. “We’re way better than this. Period.”

While the Dodgers came up short in their series finale against the Cubs, it wasn’t due to a lack of effort on Muncy’s part, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and double.

The 30-year-old, like several of his teammates, had been mired in a lengthy slump that he just now is starting to break out of. In the three-game series at Wrigley Field, Muncy recorded three hits over 10 at-bats with three RBI and a walk.

The Dodgers’ recent stretch of sloppy play can be attributed to a number of factors such as injuries, poor defense and an inconsistent lineup. The little things seemingly aren’t going in the team’s favor either, which Trevor Bauer and Justin Turner recently highlighted.

“We’re way better than this. Period,” Muncy reiterated.

The Dodgers will look to collect themselves during Thursday’s off day before resuming play this weekend against the L.A. Angels at Angel Stadium.

Buehler expects quick turnaround for Dodgers

In the midst of their worst stretch in years, Walker Buehler is confident the Dodgers will return to their winning ways soon. “I think it’s kind of evident in these games,” he said.

“We’ve gone to extra innings twice with a talented team and just come up short in those situations. I think it’s easy to make a big thing of what’s going on, but we’re playing fine.

“We’ve been in these games and we’ll keep plugging away. Obviously we’ve got to expect some of these things to turn for us. I think we have the people in this clubhouse to get the big hit and make the big pitch. It kind of is what it is at this point.”
