Dodgers News: Dustin May Leaves Brewers Game With Right Arm Injury

Already having dealt with a rash of injuries, the Los Angeles Dodgers saw Dustin May leave his start against the Milwaukee Brewers. Garrett Cleavinger, who recently was hit by a comebacker, took over with two outs in the second inning.

May winced after throwing a 94 mph fastball that was well off target, and he immediately signaled to the dugout. Manager Dave Roberts and a Dodgers trainer jogged out to meet May on the mound, who took multiple deep breaths before walking off the mound.

The SportsNet LA broadcast later showed Roberts speaking with Trevor Bauer, Clayton Kershaw and Corey Seager in the dugout. Bauer appeared to gesture to his right forearm during the conversation.

May allowed a solo home run and had three strikeouts before having to come out. He was looking to build on an impressive outing against the San Diego Padres, which included a season-high 10 strikeouts. The first update from the Dodgers was May sustained a “right arm injury.” He will undergo an MRI once the team arrives in Chicago on Sunday evening.

If May is to miss any extended time it will place further strain on the Dodgers’ pitching depth. Thus far the bulk of their injuries have come in the bullpen, with Tony Gonsolin, Brusdar Graterol, Joe Kelly, Corey Knebel and David Price all on the 10-day injured list.

Gonsolin has yet to make his 2021 debut, Graterol is dealing with right forearm tightness, Knebel is expected to be sidelined multiple months after suffering a strained right lat, and Price will likely be out for several weeks because of a right hamstring strain.

Kelly began the season on the IL but is nearing a return. Kelly just revealed he underwent right shoulder surgery during the offseason to remove a cyst.

Bellinger slowly progressing

The Dodgers’ injuries also have extended to position players, with Cody Bellinger (hairline fracture in left fibula) and Zach McKinstry (right oblique strain) currently unavailable. Both players are rehabbing at the team’s alternate training site.
