Dodgers News: Max Muncy, Baylor Bears Combine To Make History

As Max Muncy was helping lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a blowout win over the Oakland Athletics, his alma mater Baylor University was throttling Gonzaga in the championship game of the men’s NCCA basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs largely had their way throughout March Madness play, though were fortunate to escape with a Final Four victory over UCLA, much to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts’ chagrin. Baylor easily defeated Houston, then won the championship with an 86-70 victory on Monday night.

Their championship, along with Muncy delivering three hits in the Dodgers’ 10-3 win at RingCentral Coliseum, combined to make MLB history. It was Muncy’s third multi-hit performance of the season, and he has hit safely in four of five games thus far.

With the Dodgers in American League ballpark, they again are using the designated hitter spot to rotate among position players. Muncy was first to DH, which he told Kirsten Watson on SportsNet LA after the game that it afforded him the opportunity to keep tabs on his Bears.

Muncy added his running to the clubhouse to check on the score also helped keep him warm between innings.

Dodgers gold series

With the Dodgers opening the 2021 regular season on the road, they have yet to wear the gold series jersey and cap, which were officially unveiled and will be released to the public on Friday afternoon.

L.A. will celebrate their 2020 World Series win by receiving rings and raising the championship banner during a pregame ceremony on Friday. The Dodgers will wear the MLB gold program jersey and cap throughout the weekend series with the Washington Nationals.
