L.A. County Moves Into Orange Tier, Which Allows 18,000 Fans At Dodger Stadium

As positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and hospitalizations continue trending downward, the California Department of Public Health reclassified L.A. County into the orange tier. This paves the way for the Los Angeles Dodgers to expand up to fans at 33% of Dodger Stadium capacity.

The club can now sell approximately 18,480 tickets per home game. Had L.A. County remained in the red tier, the Dodgers would have been limited to roughly 11,200 fans.

The state released updated numbers on Monday, and the L.A. County adjusted case rate dropped from 4.1 new cases per 100,000 people to 3.1 new cases per 100,000 citizens. The test positivity rate also dropped from 2.0% to 1.5%.

While the Dodgers can sell more than 18,000 tickets per home game, they essentially are capped at admitting between 13,000-14,000 fans due to the current state-mandated social distancing requirements.

L.A. begins their World Series defense on Thursday with an Opening Day matchup against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. They will play seven consecutive games on the road to begin the 2021 season before returning to Dodger Stadium on April 9 for a matchup against the Washington Nationals.

The Dodgers allowed fans to enter a lottery for a chance to purchase tickets to the home opener until Sunday, March 28. The team announced that tickets for home games in April — excluding Opening Day — go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. PT.

The next hurdle for L.A. County to clear is reaching the yellow tier, which would allow Dodger Stadium to open to 67% of capacity. That only becomes possible if every fan in attendance can show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.

If and when L.A. County advances to the yellow tier, the Dodgers would be permitted to admit approximately 37,520 fans per home game, up from the current maximum of 18,480.

Dodger Stadium policies and protocols for 2021 season

As the Dodgers get set to welcome back fans to Dodger Stadium for the 2021 season, the team recently announced plans for single-game tickets along with policies and procedures to keep in mind.
