While it came in a loss, the Dodgers set a Los Angeles franchise record by turning in an 18th consecutive game with a home run on Monday. Chris Taylor broke the record with his two-run home run against the Cincinnati Reds in the fourth inning.
The 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers hold the all-time franchise record with 24 straight games with a home run. The Dodgers’ current stretch of 18 games is the longest active streak in the Majors.
Their 1960 and 2017 clubs each produced a streak of 17 games with a homer.
That Taylor hit the home run to put the 2018 Dodgers in the record book was notable in that he’s continued to swing the bat well of late.
Since being out of the lineup after an 0-for-4 performance with four strikeouts, he’s 7-for-14 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in his last five games (four starts). Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently mentioned Taylor turning the corner as one of the reasons he was optimistic the lineup as a whole would find their footing.
As a team, Los Angeles enters play Tuesday with 202 home runs on the season. They lead the National League in the category and are second to only the New York Yankees (233) among all teams.
This season is the seventh time in franchise history the Dodgers have hit at least 200 home runs in a single year.
