The Los Angeles Dodgers designated Rob Segedin for assignment as one of two corresponding roster moves to activate Josh Fields off the 60-day disabled list before Thursday’s series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally, Yimi Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Should Segedin clear waivers, it would become plausible he remains with the organization. Segedin was acquired from the New York Yankees in January 2016 in exchange for Tyler Olson and Ronald Torreyes.

A stellar showing with Oklahoma City that season led to Segedin earning a promotion for his MLB debut. He appeared in 40 games for the Dodgers during the 2016 campaign, batting .233/.301/.370 with two doubles, one triple, two home runs and 12 RBI.

However, the 2017 season was one marred by injuries, and Segedin never reached the Majors this year. He missed 102 games in 2017 due to a right great toe strain and right wrist surgery.

Segedin’s stint on the 10-day disabled list began in April of that year and he wasn’t activated off the 60-day DL until August. A bone spur was found in his wrist in May.

Limited to just 13 games in 2017, he went 4-for-20 with two doubles and one RBI. Appearing in 35 games this season with Oklahoma City, Segedin hit .211/.299/.325 with four doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI.
