Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Manny Machado collected his 1,000th career hit in the sixth inning of Thursday’s win against the Colorado Rockies. It came in Machado’s first career game at Coors Field.
He reached the milestone with a line-drive leadoff single into center field off Rockies starter Tyler Anderson. Machado nearly hit a home run a pitch before, but his drive down the left-field line hooked just a few feet foul.
Machado was in position to record hit No. 1,000 thanks to a single in his first at-bat of the game. At 26 years, 34 days old, Machado became the youngest active player in baseball with 1,000 career hits, passing Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim center fielder Mike Trout (27 years, two days).
The Dodgers acquired Machado from the Baltimore Orioles, so most of those hits came in an Orioles uniform, 977 of them to be exact.
After going 2-for-5 on Thursday, he is 23-for-82 (.280 batting average) with the Dodgers while hitting two home runs, driving in five runs, and scoring nine while walking 11 times.
Machado is having a career year overall between the two teams, hitting a combined .309/.383/.548 with 26 home runs and 70 RBI in 116 games.
