MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers Offer For Manny Machado Is Most Appealing But Doesn’t Include Yadier Alvarez Or Alex Verdugo

Among the biggest names expected to be on the move prior to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline is Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado, who has drawn interest from the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers, among over half a dozen other teams.

The Dodgers have been described as one of the more aggressive suitors for Machado’s services thus far, and the speculation of a match dates back as far as May when shortstop Corey Seager underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery.

Landing Machado won’t be easy, however, as the Orioles have placed an exorbitant price on their franchise shortstop. That was especially evident when it was recently deemed that a potential Dodgers’ trade offer of Yadier Alvarez and Alex Verdugo wouldn’t be enough to complete a deal.

The latest report from Eduardo Encina of The Baltimore Sun indicates that the Dodgers have made the most appealing offer for Machado, but have done so without including either Alvarez or Verdugo:

The Orioles have received offers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians and Chicago Cubs, and the offers rank in that order of appeal, according to the source.

The players in the Dodgers’ offer to the Orioles are unknown, but their current offer did not include either top prospect outfielder Alex Verdugo or right-hander Yadier Álvarez.

Given that the Dodgers don’t necessarily have a need for Machado, it makes sense that they’re reluctant in trading top prospects for a potential three-month rental at best.

While Machado would be a luxury on the left side of the infield, Los Angeles has received above league average contributions from Chris Taylor, who transitioned to shortstop in the wake of Seager’s injury.

Moreover, Max Muncy’s emergence has given the club another viable option in the infield; Muncy has appeared in four different positions this season, including left field, third base, second base and first base.
