The Los Angeles Dodgers have been rolling as of late, and that continued on Wednesday night with an 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the third of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Ross Stripling, who has been the Dodgers’ best pitcher in the month of May, got the start on the mound and turned in another strong performance. Stripling retired 11 straight Phillies at one point and carried a shutout into the seventh inning before giving up a solo shot to Nick Williams.
Overall, Stripling gave up just four hits and two walks in seven innings though, striking out nine, which is one off his career high that was set in his previous outing. Stripling posted a 1.68 ERA in the month of May, giving up two runs or fewer in each of his five starts.
The Dodgers offense provided Stripling with plenty of run support, with three of those runs coming in the third inning.
Max Muncy, who has been a pleasant surprise this season for Los Angeles, launched a solo home run off Phillies starter Zach Eflin with one out in the inning. Yasmani Grandal followed with a walk and was quickly cashed in on a two-run laser to left by Matt Kemp.
He went 2-for-4 with four RBI on the night, raising his batting average to .345 on the season, which is the highest in the National League. Kemp also has a team-best 30 RBI.
All nine Dodgers, including Stripling, came up with a hit on the night in the eight-run, 13-hit offensive outburst. Cody Bellinger, who has been struggling as of late, had a solid game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a walk after making some adjustments during batting practice.
