Phillies Snap Kenta Maeda’s Scoreless Innings Streak And Dodgers Winning Streak

Kenta Maeda saw his scoreless innings streak end, was removed in the second inning due to a right hip strain, and the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Philadelphia Phillies, 6-1. It snapped a modest two-game winning streak the Dodgers had.

Maeda stranded a leadoff double and two-out walk in the first inning but surrendered a home run to Nick Williams to start the second. Maeda was checked on twice in the inning before Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made the decision to pull his starter with two outs.

Scott Alexander issued a walk, followed by an infield single and two-run base hit before he managed to get out of the inning, putting the Dodgers. Back-to-back doubles off Pedro Baez in the sixth inning put the Dodgers in a 4-0 deficit.

In similar fashion to the series opener, the Dodgers were slow to get their first baserunner. But they at least managed to cut the wait in half, with Logan Forsythe leading off the third inning with a single.

Singles by Justin Turner, Matt Kemp and Chris Taylor loaded the bases in the fourth inning but Yasiel Puig struck out swinging to strand the runners. Jake Arrieta worked out of trouble again in the sixth inning when he got Kemp to pop-up and Taylor to strike out, stranding two more runners.

Arrieta got through seven shutout innings on 103 pitches, allowing six hits while striking out five and walking two. Max Muncy’s leadoff double in the eighth was cashed in on Turner’s RBI single but that was as close as the Dodgers would get.

Cutting into their deficit was also somewhat of a moot point as the Phillies strung together three consecutive hits off Daniel Hudson in the ninth to push a run across. Carlos Santana later added an RBI double, providing Philadelphia with more than a comfortable cushion to finish the game out.
