The Los Angeles Dodgers announced ahead of Game 2 of their doubleheader against the Washington Nationals that Yimi Garcia was added to the active roster as the permitted 26th man. Additionally, Erik Goeddel was activated and added to the active roster.
Pat Venditte was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City in order to create room for Goeddel, who was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Friday. He is out of Minor League options, so he had to be added to the big league roster.
The 29-year-old has gotten off to a good start to the season so far, pitching in five Major League games for the Mariners, allowing four hits and one run in 7.1 innings (1.23 ERA), with nine strikeouts and five walks. He also has tossed nine shutout innings with Triple-A Tacoma.
Garcia has spent time with both the Dodgers and Oklahoma City so far this season after returning from Tommy John surgery.
In four appearances at the Major League level, Garcia has given up five hits and four runs (three earned) in 3.1 innings (8.10 ERA) while striking out two and walking one.
He has also pitched in 10 games with Oklahoma City, yielding a 4.22 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 12 strikeouts and no walks in 10.2 innings.
