Although Kenley Jansen blew his second save, the Los Angeles Dodgers managed to come away with a victory against the San Diego Padres in 12 innings. It gave Los Angeles their first three-game winning streak of the season and clinched their first series win.
Now, they can complete a three-game sweep at Petco Park. The odds might be heavily in their favor as San Diego sends Luis Perdomo to the mound. He was originally scheduled to start the series opener but was suspended five games for his involvement in a brawl with the Colorado Rockies.
The Padres made another pitching change for Wednesday’s game, as Tyson Ross was the previously scheduled starter. To say Perdomo, now in his third season with the Padres, has struggled against the Dodgers would be an understatement.
The right-hander is 1-4 in seven games (five starts) and has allowed 30 runs (28 earned) in 30 innings pitched. The Dodgers have combined for 45 hits, including eight doubles and seven home runs over that span.
Of players on the active roster, Corey Seager has logged the most at-bats against Perdomo, and is 7-for-18. Yasiel Puig is a lifetime 5-for-9 with a triple and three RBI, while Chase Utley is 5-for-17 with a home run and three RBI, and Yasmani Grandal is 3-for-11 with two homers and five RBI.
Grandal has emerged as the Dodgers’ most productive hitter this season and has seven RBI through the first two games against his former team. He and the Dodgers will look to provide run support for Kenta Maeda.
Wednesday’s start is Maeda’s third this season and fourth overall game. He enters 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA and 1.73 WHIP. He struggled some in a return to the rotation and didn’t help his cause any with a throwing error.
The end result was Maeda allowing five runs (two earned) in just 2.2 innings of work against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s 1-2 with a 4.94 ERA in five career starts at Petco Park.
One night after joining the team and making a pinch-hit appearance, Matt Muncy now gets a start at third base. The Dodgers also added a fresh arm to the bullpen in recalling Adam Liberatore from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Rich Hill was placed on the 10-day disabled list with left third finger inflammation.
