Dodgers News: Alec Asher Claimed Off Waivers By Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers claimed right-handed pitcher Alec Asher off of waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday. Asher will report to the Brewers Triple-A affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

Losing Asher to the Brewers opens up another spot on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, which now stands at 38. The Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month after designating Zach Neal for assignment.

Asher made one start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, giving up three hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out one in three innings of work.

Asher is a 26-year-old former fourth-round draft pick of the Texas Rangers in 2012 out of Polk Community College in Florida. He has some Major League experience, making a combined 36 appearances (18 starts) across parts of three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and Orioles.

Asher is 4-12 with a 5.55 ERA, 5.17 FIP and 1.39 WHIP, with 76 strikeouts and 37 walks in 116.2 career big league innings.

The roster churning is par for the course since Andrew Friedman and Farhan Zaidi took over as Dodgers president of baseball operations and general manager, respectively. Under them, the organization has regularly claimed players off waivers and designated others for assignment.
