Since the beginning of the offseason, trade rumors involving Miami Marlins outfielder and reigning National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton have steadily heated up.
With still 10 years and $295 million remaining on his contract, it will be difficult for Miami to get the prospects they desire in return for him unless they are willing to assume some responsibility for the remainder of Stanton’s salary.
While those details still need to be ironed out, several teams have shown interest in the four-time All-Star. Namely the San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals, both of whom are believed to have presented the Marlins with trade offers for Stanton.
According to Craig Mish of Sirius XM in South Florida, the Giants included Joe Panik and a pair of top prospects in their proposal for Stanton:

Outfielder Chris Shaw is currently listed as the Giants’ second-best prospect on MLB.com, while right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede is ranked third.
As for the Cardinals, they too included one of their top pitching prospects in 22-year-old right-hander Sandy Alcantara:

While it is unknown what else the Cardinals were offering along with Alcantara, it is unlikely that either deal would be enough for the Marlins to unload their MVP. Moreover, it’s not believed Stanton would waive his no-trade clause to join the Cardinals.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly shown some interest in the slugger, and have a plethora of pitching prospects that they could offer the Marlins.
However, Los Angeles has moved to trim payroll and get under the luxury tax threshold, which would make taking on Stanton’s salary a difficult proposition.
