Dodgers NLDS Game 2 Highlights: 4-Run Fifth Inning Leads To Win Against Diamondbacks

Paul Goldschmidt’s home run in the first inning put the Los Angeles Dodgers in an early deficit and took the air out of Dodger Stadium. But the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Robbie Ray on the mound, were unable to protect the lead.

Ray held the Dodgers without a hit but issued four walks and threw two wild pitches through the first three innings. Yasiel Puig’s RBI groundout cut the Diamondbacks’ lead in half in the second inning.

Logan Forsythe’s one-out single in the fourth inning broke up Ray’s no-hitter and was followed by hits from Austin Barnes and Puig. Ray’s third wild pitch of the game allowed the tying run to score.

Chris Taylor’s grounder to the hole at shortstop resulted in an RBI infield single that gave the Dodgers a 3-2 lead before Ray could get out of the inning.

With their slim lead still intact, Los Angeles went to work in the fifth. Curtis Granderson’s pinch-hit single put runners on second and third with one out. Forsythe dumped a curveball from Jimmie Sherfy in front of David Peralta in left field for an RBI single.

After Forsythe stole second base, Barnes added to his night by ripping a two-run double down the left-field line. Puig capped off the four-run inning with a base hit to score Barnes from third base.

Brandon Morrow allowed a three-run homer to Brandon Drury in the top of the seventh, but the Dodgers responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning and went on for an 8-5 victory to take a 2-0 lead in Game 2 of the National League Division Series.

Forsythe, Barnes and Puig, who hit sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, went a combined 8-for-12 with five runs scored, five RBI and one walk.

The NLDS now shifts to Chase Field for Game on Monday, with the Dodgers looking to complete the sweep against a familiar face in Zack Greinke.
