The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Kyle Farmer from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Wednesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, and optioned Brock Stewart to OKC. The roster move gives the Dodgers a four-man bench and 10 relievers.
Stewart heads back down to the Minors after spending just one day with Los Angeles. He made a spot start in place of Yu Darvish, and was charged with five runs in two-plus innings. Stewart completed two scoreless innings before failing to retire any of the five batters faced in the third.
He surrendered a two-run home run to Starling Marte and exited with the bases loaded. Josh Ravin allowed the inherited runners to score on a double and groundout.
In 10 games (three starts) with the Dodgers this season, Stewart has yet to earn a decision and owns a 3.38 ERA, 4.84 FIP and 1.29 WHIP. He allowed five unearned runs in 16.2 innings across seven games (one start) before allowing at least two runs in his last three games (two starts).
Farmer joins the Dodgers for a second stint this season. The first saw the 27-year-old deliver a pinch-hit walk-off, two-run double in his MLB debut. Farmer became the Dodgers player since Darren Dreifort on May 27, 1994, for his first career hit be a walk-off.
What’s more, Farmer is also the only player in Dodgers franchise history with a walk-off RBI in his first career plate appearance. He went 4-for-10 with the one double and four RBI over 10 games.
In 55 games with Oklahoma City, Farmer is batting .311/.360/.495 with 15 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 35 RBI. In addition to catcher, he’s played first base, second base, third base and shortstop.
Farmer’s only time in the field with the Dodgers thus far saw him enter off the bench to log two innings at third base.
