Dodgers News: Edward Paredes Recalled From Oklahoma City, Yu Darvish Placed On Disabled List

In addition to optioning Joc Pederson to Triple-A Oklahoma City and activating Curtis Granderson, the Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Edward Paredes and placed Yu Darvish on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to Aug. 17) with lower back tightness.

Paredes joins the Dodgers for a second time this season. His first stint coincided with the 30-year-old making his MLB debut and earning the win against the Minnesota Twins on July 24.

Paredes had spent nine seasons in the Minors and 12 overall as a professional prior to that point. He threw a combined 2.1 scoreless innings over two games for the Dodgers prior to being optioned back to Oklahoma City to create room on the active roster for Tony Watson.

Paredes began the season with Double-A Tulsa, where he went 0-2 with a 2.81 ERA in 24 games. He’s 2-1 with a 0.75 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched over 11 games with Oklahoma City.

In placing Darvish on the disabled list, the Dodgers are expected to call on Brock Stewart for a spot start Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.

Darvish was removed from his debut at Dodger Stadium after 90 pitches and six innings because of back tightness. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the decision to lift Darvish while he warmed up for the seventh was precautionary and expected the 31-year-old to make his next start.

Darvish intended to pitch through the tightness but had his opinion changed by Clayton Kershaw, who reminded the right-hander of the bigger picture. Darvish is likely to return for a start on Sunday, Aug. 27 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

He’s the 25th different player the Dodgers have put on the disabled list this season. They set an MLB record last year by sending 28 players to the DL.
