On Monday the Los Angeles Dodgers designated outfielder Peter O’Brien for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster for reliever Tony Watson, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to the non-waiver trade deadline.

O’Brien has since cleared waivers, and was sent outright to Double-A Tulsa, where he started at first base on Friday night. O’Brien went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and two strikeouts in his return.

Prior to getting designated for assignment and subsequently removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, O’Brien hit .247/.347/.529 with six doubles, six home runs and 16 RBIs in 22 games with Tulsa.

The Dodgers claimed him off waivers from the Texas Rangers on June 18. O’Brien has appeared in a career 36 Major League games with the Arizona Diamondbacks over parts of the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

In 74 career at-bats, he hit .176/.228/.446 with six home runs and 12 RBIs. His Major League debut came Sept. 11, 2015 against the Dodgers at Chase Field.

The 27-year-old was a second-round pick of the New York Yankees in 2012 out of the University of Miami. He’s bounced around some of late, as this season alone O’Brien was part of the Kansas City Royals organization before joining the Rangers and then Dodgers.
