The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to have intensified their search for a starting pitcher prior to the July 31 trade deadline, with Yu Darvish and Sonny Gray emerging as the focal points. Of the two, it’s believed the Dodgers have Darvish atop their wish list.
While the Rangers began gauging interest for their ace, they continued to wrestle with the decision on whether or not to become sellers or buyers at the deadline. Days of mulling that over appear to have led to Texas moving ahead with a potential trade of their ace.
Although the 30-year-old is eligible for free agency this season, the Rangers are seeking a significant haul in return. According to Jon Morosi of MLB.com, they asked the Dodgers for a trade package that included Walker Buehler or Alex Verdugo:

A previous report highlighted the Rangers’ interest in Yadier Alvarez, Buehler, Willie Calhoun and Verdugo. It was believed they wished to receive two of the Dodgers’ top four prospects in a trade for Darvish.
More recently, a report indicated the Rangers would be willing to trade Darvish to the Dodgers if Verdugo was included in the deal. That’s problematic for Los Angeles, as it’s believed Buehler and Verdugo are largely untouchable.
The notion is furthered when considering Darvish, who may only amount to a three-month rental. The Dodgers reportedly are more inclined to trade prospects with high ceilings but who are not yet MLB-ready or near that caliber.
