Corey Seager remains the leader at shortstop in the second MLB All-Star Game voting update. With 604,783 votes, Seager sits ahead of Zack Cosart of the Cincinnati Reds (547,750 votes). Chicago Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has fallen to third place with 537,688 votes.
The status quo holds for Seager’s Los Angeles Dodgers teammates, as Justin Turner is still third in voting among third basemen, Yasmani Grandal is fifth at the catcher’s position, and Yasiel Puig placed 14th among outfielders.
Turner has received 362,952 votes to this point, and trails second-place Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockies by over 250,000 votes, and Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant by more than 530,000 votes.
As this rate, Turner’s best bet to earning his first career All-Star Game selection appears to be as a reserve, or if a player is unable to participate due to injury. Turner led the National League with a .379 batting average at the time of landing on the disabled list with a hamstring strain.
Like Turner, Grandal has slipped further behind the leading vote-getter at his position since the first update. San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey is up to 917,359 votes compared to Grandal’s 241,947. In the past week, Posey extended his lead over Grandal by more than 200,000 votes.
Puig’s 206,473 votes have him well behind Colorado Rockies center fielder Charlie Blackmon (979,961 votes) and the Cubs’ Jason Heyward (498,079) to even enter the outfield picture. Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper leads all NL players with 1,459,235 votes.
Fans can cast their votes for All-Star Game starters a total of 35 times. A maximum of five ballots can be cast within a 24-hour period.
Once voting for NL and American League All-Star starters is complete, fans will have the opportunity to vote for the final player on each roster from a final group of five in each league.
