Dodgers News: Brandon McCarthy Placed On Disabled List, Adam Liberatore Recalled From Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Brandon McCarthy on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5, with shoulder soreness, and recalled Adam Liberatore from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The roster move coincided with Alex Wood being named Monday’s starter in the series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

McCarthy was scheduled to start last Saturday against the San Diego Padres, but was said to have “tweaked” his non-throwing shoulder in the weight room and was swapped in the rotation with Clayton Kershaw. Inclement weather forced the series finale at Petco Park to be postponed.

At that point Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the team was deciding whether to start McCarthy on Monday and push the rotation back one day or go with Wood, the already scheduled starter, and skip McCarthy this time through the rotation.

McCarthy, who on Monday revealed he dislocated his left shoulder while doing a kettlebell exercise, expressed a desire to face the Pirates. Roberts expects McCarthy to return to the rotation next week during the series against the San Francisco Giants.

Liberatore joins the Dodgers for a second time this season. He allowed one run in one-third inning of relief in his lone appearance with the Dodgers. In eight games with Oklahoma City, Liberatore went 0-1 with a 0.93 ERA, while striking out nine against one walk.

McCarthy becomes the 15th different player the Dodgers have put on the disabled list this season. They set an MLB record in 2016 by placing 28 players on the DL.
