DodgerHeads: Evaluating Dodgers Spring Training Games; Gavin Lux Starting Second Baseman?

Spring Training is finally underway for the Los Angeles Dodgers as their first few Cactus League games are in the books. That made for an exciting episode of “DodgerHeads” this week with DodgerBlue.com’s Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand having real baseball to talk about.

The show started off with a recap of the first two games, including Trevor Bauer’s debut spring outing for the Dodgers. There also was new segment called “Stock Up, Stock Down,” which featured discussion on who is trending in the right direction and who isn’t for the Dodgers.

Zach McKinstry, Gavin Lux and Kenley Jansen are among those who have impressed to start the spring, while on the other hand, Matt Beaty could find himself on the outside looking in for an Opening Day roster spot.

Lux was a big topic of conversation after Dave Roberts’ comments revealing that he is expected to be the team’s starter at second base. Lux has been a top prospect for a while now, and it seems that 2021 could be the year that he breaks out for L.A.

Additionally, Roberts added that Lux could see some time at shortstop when Corey Seager gets a rest as well. What does that mean for the long-term future of both him and Seager?

Dodgers new two-way player?

One other interesting comment from Roberts was in regards to non-roster invitee Matt Davidson, who has the chance to crack the roster as a two-way player. Everyone knows the Dodgers value versatility, and Davidson would take that to a whole new level.

As always, Spiegel and Starkand answered fan mailbag questions to close out the show. This week included questions on DJ Peters, who homered in Monday’s win, and a potential Joc Pederson return in 2022.
