Dodgers Video: Charlie Culberson Clinches NL West With Walk-Off Home Run

The Los Angeles Dodgers were in good position to clinch a fourth consecutive National League West division title when they took the field Sunday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies.

After rattling off four straight wins, Los Angeles needed just one more to conclude Vin Scully Weekend at Dodger Stadium with a celebration. Though if the Dodgers stumbled, they still could have wrapped up the division with the San Diego Padres defeating the San Francisco Giants.

Colorado led, 2-1, after the third inning despite the Dodgers putting men on base with regularity. Corey Seager’s RBI triple tied the game in the seventh, then Seager’s solo home run again tied it with two outs in the ninth.

The solo blast was not long after Dodger Stadium was shell shocked by David Dahl hitting a go-ahead home run off Kenley Jansen.

Then with two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Charlie Culberson stepped into the batter’s box. At that stage, the Padres were one out away from handing the Dodgers the division title.

While Los Angeles certainly would have accepted that, Culberson’s walk-off home run allowed them to clinch the NL West on their own accord. The home run was Culberson’s first this season, first in the Majors since 2014, and goes down as Vin Scully’s final call at Dodger Stadium.
