Dodgers News: Casey Fien Sent Outright To Triple-A Oklahoma City

On Saturday the Los Angeles Dodgers designated Casey Fien for assignment to create room on the 40-man roster for Andre Ethier. Fien cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.

It was the second time this season he was outrighted to Triple-A by the Dodgers. Fien could have rejected the latest assignment. He returns to OKC for their matchup with El Paso Chihuahuas (San Diego Padres affiliate) in the Pacific Coast League championship. The best-of-five series begins Tuesday in El Paso.

The Dodgers claimed Fien off waivers from the Minnesota Twins in May. The right-hander earned a save and had a 5.87 ERA in six games (7.2 innings) with OKC prior to being recalled.

Fien was strong early, holding opponents to a .185/.214/.259 batting line in eight scoreless innings over his first eight appearances. He eventually fell victim to the longball and was put on the 15-day disabled list in July with elbow tendinitis.

After four rehab appearances split between Arizona League Dodgers and High-A Rancho Cucamonga, Fien was reinstated from the disabled list in August. He appeared in four games with the club prior to Saturday’s roster move.

In 25 games with the Dodgers, Fien went 0-1 with a 4.21 ERA, 6.22 FIP, 1.21 WHIP, 23 strikeouts and eight home runs allowed over 25.2 innings. He’s 1-0 with a 4.35 ERA in eight games with Oklahoma City.
