The Los Angeles Dodgers had 13 hits in Friday’s series opener against the San Diego Padres, but only two runs to show for it. San Diego, meanwhile, was more opportunistic, scoring four runs on six hits.

The Padres struggled to find any success against Rich Hill on Saturday as the southpaw spun six shutout innings with eight strikeouts. Hill issued a leadoff walk in the first inning, then proceeded to retire 14 consecutive batters.

His streak was snapped by an Adam Rosales two-out walk in the fifth. Hill lost his no-hit bid on an Alexei Ramirez single with two outs in the sixth.

While Hill was shutting out the Padres, the Dodgers weren’t able to break through against Luis Perdomo until the fourth inning.

Corey Seager and Justin Turner connected on back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners with nobody out.

A third single, off the bat of Adrian Gonzalez, gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead. Their string of hits continued on a booming Yasmani Grandal home run to straightaway center:

The home run was Grandal’s 22nd this season and fifth against his former club. Three of those homers came July 8. Grandal now leads all Major-League catchers in home runs in the season.
