The Los Angeles Dodgers ended their three-game losing streak in emphatic fashion on Friday night, led by Yasmani Grandal’s five hits, three of which were home runs, and six RBIs. Saturday’s game is the second-to-last for the Dodgers before the All-Star break.
For Brandon McCarthy, it’s just his second start of the season. He threw five scoreless innings and had eight strikeouts in an impressive 2016 debut. McCarthy last season went 3-0 with a 5.87 and 1.22 WHIP in four starts before undergoing season-ending Tommy John surgery.
The right-hander faced the Padres twice in 2015, including in what wound up being his final start. Despite allowing a combined 10 runs on 15 hits in the two starts, McCarthy had 13 strikeouts and went 2-0.
Luis Perdomo enters 3-3 with a 7.93 ERA, 5.06 FIP and 2.00 WHIP in 21 games (six starts). The rookie right-hander has made three relief appearances against the Dodgers this season, allowing 11 runs on 16 hits in just seven innings pitched.
Yasiel Puig is 4-for-5 with three RBIs off Perdomo in his career, while Howie Kendrick is 3-for-3 with two doubles. Adrian Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with one double, two runs scored and two walks on Friday night. He’s batting .447 (17-for-38) with five doubles and nine RBIs in his last 12 games.
After making his Major League debut on Friday, Andrew Toles starts in center field a second consecutive night. Toles signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers last October and began this season with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.
