The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Layne Somsen off waivers from the New York Yankees, and transferred Chin-hui Tsao to the 60-day disabled list. Somsen was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22nd round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.
He began the 2016 season still part of the Reds organization, posting a 1.89 ERA over 10 games with Triple-A Louisville. Someson joined the Reds in mid-May, throwing one scoreless inning of relief, and allowing five runs on five hits, including two home runs, over 1.1 innings pitched in a second appearance.
He returned to Triple-A and was claimed off waivers by the Yankees after making two appearances with the Louisville Bats.
Someson tossed six scoreless innings and had 10 strikeouts over four games with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Opponents hit just .136/.321/.136 during that span.
In his career, Somsen has a 2.42 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and averages 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings over 90 Minor-League appearances (189.2 innings).
