Dodgers News: 107-Year-Old Irving Piken Meets Vin Scully, Orel Hershiser

The Los Angeles Dodgers’ recent seven-game homestand left plenty to be desired as they were swept by the Miami Marlins and only managed to take one of three from the San Diego Padres.

On top of ending their six-game losing streak with a win on Sunday afternoon behind a dominant Clayton Kershaw performance, it was a monumental day for longtime Dodgers fan Irving Piken and three generations of his family.

At 107 years old, the oldest living Dodgers fan paid a visit to Chavez Ravine. During the trip, Irving met Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully and SportsNet LA broadcaster Orel Hershiser.

Irving, who makes regular visits to a gym to keep active, was a Dodgers fan prior to the organization relocating to Los Angeles, and is connected to the franchise selecting their named based on trolley dodgers in Brooklyn.

Upon meeting Scully, Piken praised him for the clarity in which Scully calls games, and the viewing and listening pleasure Scully has provided for endless years. “It’s very much superior to anything I’ve heard from other reporters,” Piken told Scully.

Piken and Scully reminisced on their childhood days and time spent stickball, punch ball, and other forms of baseball-type games. After meeting Hershiser and Scully, the four generations of Pikens announced the infamous, ‘It’s Time For Dodger Baseball’ prior to first pitch.

Piken’s trip to Dodger Stadium is a featured segment on Backstage: Dodgers, which airs Thursday at 7:00 p.m. PT on Time Warner Cable SportsNet LA.
