The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated Louis Coleman from the bereavement list prior to Monday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins. Luis Avilan, who was recalled when Coleman was made inactive, was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Coleman last pitched April 19 and has been inactive since April 21 to be with his family after the death of his grandfather. A minimum stay on the bereavement list is three days, with a maximum stint of seven days.

Coleman’s return is certainly welcomed considering Yimi Garcia has since landed on the 15-day disabled list due to right biceps soreness.

In five games this season, Coleman owns a 7.20 ERA, 4.84 FIP and 1.60 WHIP over five innings pitched. After posting back-to-back scoreless relief appearances, he allowed at least one run in each of his last three games.

Coleman signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers in mid-February, and made the roster ahead of Avilan with a strong showing in spring. Coleman’s argument was further aided by the fact he is out of options, whereas Avilan is not.

Avilan made three relief appearances after being recalled, allowing three runs over 0.2 innings pitched. Prior to joining the Dodgers this season, Avilan tossed six scoreless innings for the Oklahoma City Dodgers over five appearances, with three walks and nine strikeouts.
