Dodgers News: Vin Scully Taking Daily Approach For Final Season

When baseball fans think of the Los Angeles Dodgers and everything the storied franchise has to offer, one voice and name resonates with all — Vin Scully. The icon has been with the organization since their time in Brooklyn, and is entering his 67th and final season as broadcaster of the Dodgers.

While Scully announcing this season will be his last has led to even more fanfare, the voice of the Dodgers has continued to deflect the attention. He did, however, accept the honor of having Elysian Park Avenue renamed after him.

Along with being able to majestically call a game, Scully’s humbleness and how gracious he is, plays a significant role in him being respected across baseball, and not just by Dodger fans.

When recently asked for his perspective on 2016 being his final season in the broadcast booth, Scully expressed enthusiasm over the matter, but said he’s maintaining a day-by-day focus, according to ESPN’s Doug Padilla:

“This one is special to me so I’m excited to get it started. I’m not sure how I’ll feel when I get down to the end, being somewhat of a sentimental Irishman it might be a fight that I have with myself. I’m looking forward to the whole year without thinking about the end of the year at all, concentrating on today and as they go.”

Although he’s refrained from it in recent seasons, Scully is traveling to San Diego to call the Dodgers’ Opening Day game. He will then give way to Joe Davis for the next two games, and for the Dodgers’ four-game series that follows against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

Scully said he also intends to call the Dodgers’ final series of the regular season, which will come against the Giants on the road.
While the longtime broadcaster may very well be the center of attention throughout baseball, Scully is hoping tolargely fly under the radar in his farewell season.
