Dodgers Video: Yasiel Puig Throws Out Jon Jay At Third Base

There wasn’t much in the positive news department for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday as Mike Bolsinger and Scott Van Slyke were scratched from their respective starts in a split-squad game against the San Diego Padres.

The former was of course more concerning when taking into account the state of disarray the Dodgers’ pitching staff is already in. Bolsinger was unable to take the mound due to what the Dodgers announced was abdominal tightness on his left side. Bolsinger later indicated the pain is near his oblique.

Van Slyke missed Sunday’s game and is expected to be out the next few days with a minor hip flexor. Jeremy Kehrt started in place of Bolsinger and wound up getting chased in the second after allowing six runs in the inning.

Kehrt managed to keep the Padres off the board in the first, but it wasn’t without help from his defense.

After Jon Jay opened the game with a leadoff base hit, he attempted to go first to third on a Cory Spangenberg single to right field. However, as he’s done so often, Yasiel Puig came charging in and threw a strike to nail Jay:

Jay later managed to go first to third base on another Spangenberg single to right field that Puig was unable to cleanly come up with. Puig went 0-for-2 with one walk in the Dodgers’ loss to the Padres.
