The latest episode of “DodgerHeads” was a big one as not only did it include hosts Jeff Spiegel and Daniel Starkand, but also DodgerBlue.com managing editor Matthew Moreno. The trio came together to discuss Trevor Bauer’s decision to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Although it has yet to be announced by the team, Bauer and the Dodgers reportedly reached an agreement on a three-year, $102 million contract. The reigning National League Cy Young winner will be the highest-paid player in baseball in 2021 and 2022, making $40 million and $45 million, respectively. He also has the ability to opt-out after every year.
The discussion began with how surprised everyone was by Bauer’s decision, as well as reaction to the signing. Bauer is a polarizing figure in baseball due to his social media activity and political views, but so far, fans have mostly reacted positively.
As far as things go on the field, just how big of an addition is Bauer to a starting rotation that was among the best in baseball in 2020? Is he an ace, or will he slot in behind Walker Buehler and Clayton Kershaw in L.A.’s rotation?
Additionally, the Dodgers now have a crowded rotation, so is there a potential trade in the works? And what does Bauer’s signing mean for Justin Turner, who remains a free agent?
MLB Network top 10 rankings
To close out the show, Spiegel and Starkand discussed MLB Network analyst Mike Petriello’s recent top-10 rankings at each position going into the 2021 season.
While the overall rankings were solid, there were some things that caused disagreement, including the shortstop and right field positions.
