2026 MLB All-Star Game Starters: Freddie Freeman Voted National League First Baseman

Freddie Freeman is going to represent the Los Angeles Dodgers among the 2026 MLB All-Star Game starters as the first baseman for the National League team.

It was an expected outcome as Freeman remained ahead of his peers at every All-Star Game voting update. Freeman and the Atlanta Braves’ Matt Olson advanced to Phase 2 as finalists at the position. MLB shared two updates for the second round, and Freeman had garnered 59% of balloting both times.

Will Smith (catcher), Max Muncy (third base), Mookie Betts (shortstop), Teoscar Hernández (outfield) and Andy Pages (outfield) were Dodgers who also advanced as All-Star Game finalists.

Shohei Ohtani once again earned the automatic starting spot as the designated hitter by virtue of receiving the most votes for any NL player in Phase 1. Ohtani’s vote total also led all players, with the Toronto Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement pacing the American League but trailing the Dodgers’ superstar.

Freddie Freeman adds to All-Star legacy

The 2026 All-Star Game selection is Freeman’s 10th of his career and sixth in a row. He’s now been an All-Star in all five seasons with the Dodgers (third as a starter).

Furthermore, Freeman is an All-Star Game starter for the sixth time overall and third instance in the last four years. Freeman and Steve Garvey are the only Dodgers first basemen to ever be voted an MLB All-Star Game starter by fans.

Freeman previously won the fan election to start in the Midsummer Classic for the Braves in 2018, 2019 and 2021, and with the Dodgers in 2023 and 2025. Last year’s selection was particularly special for Freeman due to the Braves hosting the annual event at Truist Park.

Freeman of course spent the first 12 years of his career with the Braves and starting an All-Star Game in Atlanta was sentimental.

“That would be pretty cool to go there and represent the Dodgers in the All-Star Game, especially with our coaching staff being the coaching staff for the All-Star team. I think that’s pretty special,” Freeman said last year.

“So if we can get as many guys there as possible, that would be pretty cool. Obviously, in the park I saw being built and spent a lot of time there, that would definitely be pretty cool.”
