2025 MLB All-Star Game: Aaron Judge & Shohei Ohtani Voted Starters

The Los Angeles Dodgers are guaranteed to have at least one starter in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game as Shohei Ohtani was the leading vote-getter in the National League.

New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge led all American League players in fan voting and thus bypassed Phase 2 as well. Judge additionally paced all players in both All-Star Game voting updates.

At the most recent tally shared by MLB earlier in the week, Ohtani had 2,521,718 votes to Judge’s 2,699,483.

Phase 1 closed with Judge at 4,012,983 votes and Ohtani garnered 3,967,668.

The top overall vote-getter in each league automatically earns a starting spot in the All-Star Game, while the rest of the finalists compete in the second round. If an outfielder is a league’s top vote-getter, like with Judge, phase 2 voting at the position still takes place to determine the remaining two starters among the next four outfield finalists.

The two leading vote-getters at every position and top six outfielders from each league were revealed on MLB Network, beginning at 3 p.m. PT on Thursday.

Phase 2 of MLB All-Star Game voting begins at 9 a.m. PT on Monday, June 30.

MLB All-Star Game starters will then be announced that night on ESPN, beginning at 4 p.m. All-Star reserves and pitchers who help make up complete AL and NL rosters will be revealed at 3 p.m. on July 6, on ESPN as well.

Shohei Ohtani’s All-Star Game history

Ohtani earned a fifth career All-Star Game bid, with each of them coming consecutively and the last two as a member of the NL team.

In 2024, Ohtani became the first designated hitter to start an All-Star Game in four consecutive years. Prior to that, Ohtani made MLB history as the only player who has ever earned a win on the mound and hit a home run at the plate in his All-Star Game career.

Ohtani earned the win during the 2021 All-Star Game while representing the Los Angeles Angels. He pitched one inning as the starter in that game, facing three batters without allowing anyone to reach base.

Ohtani is again going to serve as the designated hitter in the NL lineup and bat leadoff for manager Dave Roberts, but will not be pitching despite making his return to the mound for the Dodgers this season.

However, Roberts said he would not interfere with or dictate if Ohtani is going to participate in the Home Run Derby at Truist Park. Thus far, only Ronald Acuña Jr.
