Freddie Freeman and Will Smith were among the Los Angeles Dodgers finalists for a 2024 Silver Slugger Award at their respective positions, but both lost out on the honor.
Despite the losses, the Dodgers still had four Silver Sluggers with Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández each taking home a new piece of hardware, and the team as a whole winning an award.
Freeman lost out to Bryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies for the Silver Slugger as a National League first baseman.
Harper hit .286/.373/.529 with 41 doubles, 30 home runs, 86 RBI, 83 runs scored, six stolen bases and a 145 wRC+. His .902 on-base plus slugging percentage was the highest among all NL first basemen.
Comparatively, Freeman hit .282/.378/.476 with 35 doubles, two triples, 22 home runs, 89 RBI, 81 runs scored, nine stolen bases, a 137 wRC+ and .854 OPS.
Milwaukee Brewers’ backstop William Contreras took the honor for catchers ahead of Smith and J.T. Realmuto of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Contreras hit .282/.367/.461/.828 with 30 doubles, one triple, 17 home runs, 82 runs scored, 74 RBI and seven stolen bases with a 130 wRC+.
Smith batted .251/.330/.430/.760 with 24 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, 75 runs scored, 73 RBI and one stolen base with a 111 wRC+.
Dodgers Silver Sluggers 2024
Ohtani beat out Marcell Ozuna of the Atlanta Braves at the designated hitter spot for his third Silver Slugger Award and first with the Dodgers in the NL after collecting two with the Los Angeles Angels in the American League.
Hernández earned his third career Silver Slugger, his first since his 2021 season with the Toronto Blue Jays. The outfield spot had five finalists, also including Jackson Chourio (Milwaukee Brewers), Jackson Merrill (San Diego Padres), Jurickson Profar (Padres) and Seiya Suzuki (Chicago Cubs).
Betts won his Silver Slugger Award at the utility position, besting Luis Arraez of the San Diego Padres, the Miami Marlins’ Jake Burger and Bryan Reynolds of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It is the seventh Silver Slugger of Betts’ career and sixth in the past seven seasons.
The Dodgers took the NL Offensive Team of the Year honor over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
As a team, the Dodgers hit .258/.335/.446 with 845 runs scored and led the NL in wRC+ (118), slugging percentage (.446), home runs (233) and OPS (.781).
The D-Backs led the NL in runs scored (886), batting average (.263) and on-base percentage (.337); and finished second in slugging percentage (.440), OPS (.777) and wRC+ (115); and third in home runs (211).
