The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a blowout loss to the San Diego Padres in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, which was played in front of a record crowd at Dodger Stadium.

Announced Dodgers attendance for the playoff matchup was 54,119. That represented the Dodgers’ second sellout of the NLDS and the largest crowd at Dodger Stadium in 2024.

Game 1 was sold out as well with an announced attendance of 53,028.

Dodgers fans became unruly Sunday night as they threw a baseball toward Jurickson Profar, and beers and trash onto the field in Fernando Tatis Jr.’s direction. Play was paused for nearly 10 minutes during the bottom of the seventh inning.

Profar had drawn the fans’ ire earlier in the game by robbing Mookie Betts of a home run in the bottom of the first. Meanwhile, Tatis has proven to be a lightning rod for multiple years.

“Wild,” Tatis answered when asked to describe his relationship with fans at Dodger Stadium.

“Oh, man, it’s definitely wild out here. But at the same time it’s a good environment for baseball. Although people get carried away a little bit with their emotions, but it’s a good back and forth. At the end of the day, it’s a show, and we should enjoy every moment.”

Dodgers attendance for 2024

Overall, Dodger Stadium attendance for the 2024 season checked in at 3,941,251 that once again was most in the Majors and finished as the second-highest total in the ballpark’s history. The team averaged 49,266 fans across 80 games in Shohei Ohtani’s history-making first season with the Dodgers.

In July, the Dodgers set the record for largest crowd to attend any MLB game in 2024 when they had an announced attendance of 54,070 for a matchup against the San Francisco Giants on Kiké Hernández bobblehead night.

The Dodgers set a franchise record during the 2019 season with a total Dodger Stadium attendance of 3,974,309 (49,066 average).

Including this year, the Dodgers exceed 3 million in home attendance for the 12th time in the past 14 seasons. The only exceptions were the pandemic-impacted 2020 season when fans were not permitted and in 2021 because of limited attendance being allowed for a portion of the schedule.
