The New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers are set to play in the 2024 National League Championship Series, which begins with Game 1 at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

The Mets are in the NLCS for the first time since 2015 when they swept the Chicago Cubs. That came on the heels of stunning the Dodgers in five games in the NL Division Series. They reached the World Series that year but lost to the Kansas City Royals.

Overall, this is the Mets’ ninth NLCS appearance in franchise history.

New York went on somewhat of an improbable run to punch their ticket for October baseball this year. Their postseason berth was secured behind a wild win against the Atlanta Braves in the first game a doubleheader at Truist Park the day after the regular season concluded.

That put them into a postseason matchup against the No. 3 Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series. The Mets came out swinging to take Game 1 and then rallied in the ninth inning of Game 3 to advance.

Next was facing the Philadelphia Phillies, who were favored in the series. But the Mets pulled off an NLDS upset in four games.

It left them awaiting the winner of the San Diego Padres-Dodgers matchup that went the distance. All New York was aware of the last couple days was their travel plans included a flight to Southern California.

After finishing with the best record in baseball, the Dodgers secured the No. 1 seed in the NL postseason bracket and spot in the Division Series. They managed to stave off elimination at Petco Park and completed their NLDS comeback with a Game 5 win.

The Dodgers have reached the NLCS for a 16th time in franchise history and it’s their sixth appearance under manager Dave Roberts. The Dodgers went 4-2 against the Mets this season.

The 2024 NLCS schedule follows a 2-3-2 format. Thus, the Mets at most will play three games at Citi Field. The NLCS schedule also includes traditional off day after Game 2, and potentially following Game 5 as well.
