The Los Angeles Dodgers are represented by Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández in the National League lineup for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game.
Ohtani was guaranteed a starting spot as the designated hitter due to winning the fan vote at his position. Hernández had also been on track to be among the starting NL outfielders but lost a lead in Phase 2 of All-Star Game voting.
He was overtaken late in the process by San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr. Hernández wound up placing fourth as he finished around 3,000 votes behind Tatis.
Hernández nevertheless earned a second career All-Star Game selection by being among the NL reserves. The 31-year-old is also participating in the Home Run Derby at Globe Life Field on Monday night.
Overall, the Dodgers have six All-Stars this year. It’s the third time since 2017 the Dodgers have at least six All-Stars, and it’s their fifth consecutive year with a minimum of five.
Dodgers All-Stars Mookie Betts (hand fracture) and Tyler Glasnow (back tightness) are not participating in the 94th Midsummer Classic due to respective injuries.
How is Teoscar Hernández starting All-Star Game?
Hernández is playing center field for the National League because Tatis remains on the mend from a stress reaction in his right thigh bone. Tatis has not been in the Padres’ lineup since June 21.
