2024 London Series No Longer Using Former Dodgers Relief Pitcher On Marketing Poster

Preparation for the 2024 MLB London Series is in full effect across the pond, and Jake Reed, a former pitcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers, made a surprise appearance.

This year’s London Series is between the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies. It features superstars including Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Zack Wheeler, Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor.

While the Mets have a few big-name players, surprisingly, Reed was featured on some of the Mets’ posters, viaX user @Jolly_Olive:

The 2024 Mets are being represented in some London promotions by… Jake Reed?

It was a very odd choice being that Reed is not with the Mets in London and hasn’t been with the organization since 2022.

Reed’s time with the Mets that season was brief, throwing 6.1 innings with an 11.37 ERA. He was later designated for assignment on July 10, 2022, where he joined the Dodgers for his second stint.

The decision to feature Reed on the promotional material was also odd because he currently is a free agent, and his third stint with the Dodgers in 2023 was his last time as a part of an MLB organization.

It seems as if the mistake has since been corrected, according to another user:

Hey bud, went there today and the workers were taking down the photo displays and dressing mannequins to replace the Jake Reed stuff. Felt bad and apologized on your behalf and mine for getting them in trouble and making them do extra work. Gave them a couple pins as a mea culpa

— Mets Jr. (@MetsJr69) June 5, 2024

Hopefully the Mets can get some of their more talented players marketed, or at least some who are still on the roster. Some other choices who could be marketed include Brandon Nimmo, Starling Marte, Kodai Senga and Francisco Alvarez.

History of the MLB London Series

The inaugural MLB London Series was in 2019 as their first attempt to follow in the NFL’s footsteps and break into the a new market in England. The first NFL game held in London was all the way back in 2007 between the New York Giants and the Miami Dolphins.

This year is set to be the series’ third installment after the COVID-19 pandemic caused the series to be cancelled in 2020 and the series was put on hold until it returned last season.
