The Los Angeles Dodgers selected first baseman Joe Vetrano from Boston College with their fifth-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. Vetrano was drafted by the Dodgers with the 163rd overall pick.
Through the fifth round of the Draft he was their fourth position player taken in seven picks, and fifth from the collegiate ranks.
The 163rd pick in the 2023 MLB Draft has a $364,400 slot value.
Vetrano was primarily a relief pitcher for the Eagles during his freshman year in 2021, but began to develop more in the batter’s box and transitioned to a position player.
As a sophomore in 2022, Vetrano hit 22 home runs and had the second-most RBI in a single season with 64. He did the bulk of that damage from the cleanup spot of the Eagles’ lineup. Vetrano reduced strikeouts and improved his walk rate in 2023.
Vetrano’s power potential makes him an ideal candidate to remain at first base, even if the defense is not spectacular.
Vetrano bats and throws left-handed.
