The Los Angeles Dodgers selected pitcher Brady Smith from Grainger High School (Tennessee) with their third-round pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. The Dodgers’ picking Smith was made with the 95th overall selection.

Smith is currently committed to attend Virginia Tech. He’s the second high school pick the Dodgers have made in the 2023 Draft thus far, joining outfielder Kendall George, who was taken at No. 36.

Dodgers director of amateur scouting Billy Gasparino said the team would likely look to the high school ranks during Day 2 of the Draft.

Smith has strong spin rates on his curveball and slider, and has a fastball that can reach 95 mph.

The No. 95 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft has a $705,500 slot value.

The Dodgers have a $7,274,600 bonus pool for this year’s Draft, which ranks 24th overall. Total bonus pool value is calculated by adding the slot values of every pick through the first 10 rounds.

Any bonus amount a player receives that exceeds $125,000 for draft picks made after the 10th round also counts against pool money.

Penalties for exceeding that allotment include a 75% tax on any overage amount that is up to 5% over the pool. If a team goes more than 5% over their pool, they lose their first-round pick in the next year’s draft.
